About Em

Em Callaghan is a Canberra photographer documenting visual stories throughout the Southern Tablelands of NSW.

Despite being raised on the coast, Em always felt the pull of the interior. A stint as a governess on a remote sheep station sealed it — a lasting love for rural people, wide landscapes and the quiet richness of life beyond the city limits.

Em's twenties were a study in contrasts: from the electric pulse of New York to the salt-rimmed remoteness of Thursday Island. The cool, unhurried beauty of the Canberra region finally claimed her and she put down roots to raise a family. It's been a two decade love affair with the Southern Tablelands ever since.

In 2020, a lifelong instinct became a freelance practice. Em now crafts evocative imagery for small business websites, social media and marketing. Her work has been featured in magazines, tourism guides and accommodation platforms across the region & her event photography is candid, instinctive and deeply atmospheric.

Em moves through the world in frames, always curious, always observant. A firm believer in community over competition, Em brings genuine care to every collaboration, championing her clients' work as if it were her own.

Known for her deep fondness of coffee, countryside & universal human rights.
