Flock Ewe 2021

Welcome dear reader...it's lovely to have you here.

I thought I'd kick off this shiny new photography blog with a post about the 2021 ANZ Agribusiness Gunning Flock Ewe Competition...a progressive feast of merinos in the fine wool growing region of the Southern Tablelands NSW.

Lee Towle from Longview Garlic invited me along to take some snaps of this year's competition.

It was a great opportunity to see some of the properties around Gunning, especially after such a good season. Thirteen farms from the area entered this year's comp and with that was a great crowd to check them out. The judges were Guy Evans of Tara Park Merino stud in Boorowa and Steve Ridley, Elders livestock manager in Goulburn. I tagged along with Lee & Phil for the afternoon and bloody loved bumping along the dirt roads in their ute, rain coming down at a steady drizzle. We crowded into wool sheds or stood by the sheep pens listening to each farmer talk about their successes and trials of the past 12 months. I always feel privileged to be a proverbial fly on the wall at these kind of events...observing and capturing the moments that make up the day and learning something every time.

The winner of the Gunning Flock Ewe Competition for 2021 was the Basnett family of Naamaroo Pastoral Pty Ltd, Gunning and second place were the Hewitts of Allamby. Congratulations to the them both and to everyone who participated in the day. It was smashing!

Below is a taste of the day.

Cheers Em xx.
