“I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary.

I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was.”

Ransom Riggs.

I've twice had the pleasure of visiting Min at her home on Lilstan Farm in Dalton NSW recently. Apart from instantly falling in love with this beautiful old property and thoroughly enjoying the company of friends old and new, I've been able to capture the farm in two stages of its autumn glory. The first was at the end of April when the trees were at their height of colour, the air hung heavy with the scent of ripe fruit & a few late blooms dotted the garden. The second was yesterday, after the trees had shrugged off their resplendent coats in preparation for winter slumber and the birds and insects had all but ravished the bounty of the wild orchard.

The lovely thing about hanging out with other creatives is observing what catches their eye as they're wandering about. Quite often we spot something simultaneously. There is always so much to forage on a farm. Little gems...like an old nest in the fork of an elm; lichen glowing green gold on bark; rosehips boldly pronouncing themselves by an old fence line, half hidden in waist high pale yellow grass; or, some rusted wire just asking to be gathered up and sculpted into something wild and whimsical. Added to that is the soundtrack of these expeditions. The crunch of boots on fallen leaves; birdsong high above our heads; the call of lambs to their mummies across the paddock; our raucous laughter that inevitably follows someone's hilarious anecdote; or the call of frogs from the rushes and reeds. I get so much out of these sensory feasts. I'm so thankful to Min for her generous hospitality and to Lee and Ros for their grand company on these visits!

The following images are gathered into April and May...they show the distinct change that the space of just a few weeks can bring.

May there be many more chances to capture the stunning seasons at Lilstan!

Enjoy! Pip pip...xx Em
